Thing to do and see
Situated close to the M6 motorway, we are perfectly located for guests to easily explore both local attractions and destinations further afield.
From the doorstep of The Retreat there are perfect short hikes that are child-family friendly. Harrock Hill is our family favourite. Also close by is Fairy Glen, Parbold Hill, Yarrow Valley and Chisnell Hall Nature Reserve. For those wanting to venture further afield, Southport, Blackpool, Rivington and Formby are around a 30 minute drive away and the lake district is just under one hour away.
We are close to Parbold Canal, its a section of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, running through the village of Parbold. Known for its scenic walks and offering plenty of eateries to grab a bite to eat or drink at. Parbold has been recognised in The Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2025.
For those who love a bit of retail therapy, Bolton, Preston, Liverpool and Manchester are around a 30 minute drive away. If your preference is to visit smaller towns for a spot of lunch and lighter shopping we are close to Chorley, Wigan, Ormskirk and Skelmersdale.
Locally we have some beautiful garden centres and nurseries for anyone with a passion for plants and flowers. Just off Tunley Lane is Tunley Moss Nurseries and both Golden Days Garden Centre and Birkacre Garden Centre are a short drive away.
For families wanting a day out with their children Apple Cast Farm is a short drive from The Retreat. Martin Mere Wetland is also a family favourite along with Windmill Animal Farm. Both are less than a 30 minute drive away.
Haigh Woodland Park is a famous Park in Wigan and further afield for its impressive grounds and woodlands.
For inside adventures there are plenty of play areas in the local area and further afield.
The longest indoor ski slope can be found at the Chill Factor which is just of J21 of the M6 next to the Trafford Centre, Dino Falls, Trafford Golf Centre and iFLY.
There really is so much to see and do locally, and with close proximity to J27, commuting to other areas is quick and convenient.
